Mastery Martial Arts

Our children have trained at Mastery Martial Arts since 2012, shortly after we began home schooling. There are no words to describe how invaluable this program has been in partnership with our home school journey. Mastery is not just about martial arts. In fact, Mastery is a "black belt leadership school". The martial arts are just a vehicle to teach and instill life skills every person needs to become strong mentally, emotionally, physically, and socially.

Our children have been enrolled in the leadership program since early on. Mastery reinforces every skill and value we want our children to embody. Mastery provides a safe environment for them to practice these skills and grow in confidence and self esteem, while also developing self discipline and respect for themselves and others. One of the more impressive skills the students develop naturally is public speaking. It is a part of the curriculum and every student has the opportunity to participate and evolve at the various levels of instruction and leadership training.

Our children began assisting with teaching classes at young ages. They had the opportunity to become Jr Camp Counselors during summer camp. They graduated to Camp Counselors. And through a more intensive training program, became instructors. Two of our children are now full time instructors with Mastery; one a chief instructor, and one a program director. Our 13 year old is a member of the Mastery demo team, which is the fulfillment of a dream he has had since he was 5 years old. He set goals and worked hard. Now, he helps other students learn weapon forms and physical feats, such as back flips and intricate spins. He also trains in the legacy leadership program, and helps in classes and at camps. All three of them also travel to local schools to introduce students to the "YES I CAN" mentality. They also visit women's shelters to teach self defense workshops, volunteer at community events, and continue their own intensive training in the martial arts, and the most advanced learning techniques to bring to their students.

Our children have trained a minimal of 4 days a week since they began. While this more than covers their required physical fitness classes, it covers a wide array of skills one could never find in a typical public school environment. Their leadership training requires reading self development materials on a variety of subjects including, mindset, habit forming, confidence, business, financial literacy, and health. They also attend seminars with national guest speakers, and have traveled to national training and workshops.

After years of training our daughters are knowledgeable in every area of running a martial arts school and are ready to delve into the next phase of their careers with Mastery.  Our 21 year old son does not work for Mastery, but his years of training have given him the discipline and confidence to perform well in his current position with a staging company, as he also develops his interests in other areas. Our 13 year old does not know what career he wants to focus on yet. At the moment, he is passionate about his Demo Team training, and working with the younger students. He does not think he wants a career in martial arts. But again, this training will benefit him in any direction he focuses on.

Oh... And all four of them are 2nd Degree Black Belts. The older three are testing for 3rd Degree this coming winter.

I'm sharing this as a witness to how amazing this program has been in our children's lives and how wonderfully it has blended with home schooling. Our flexible schedule made it possible for our children to dive as deep into this life as they wanted to. Mastery is on the cutting edge of educating young people and helping them to develop the skills everyone needs to succeed in this world. I believe our children have learned things that will help them break some generational cycles and create lives in which they will feel purpose and fulfillment.
